Fortnite’s new post-apocalyptic season taps into Fallout, Mad Max and X-Men

Epic Games has unusual habits to be sure fits with the cultural zeitgeist, and so it does again. After a strong season focused on Greek gods and monsters, the battle royale’s latest major update takes a vehicle-heavy, post-apocalyptic turn in Season 3 of 5.

The new season titled “Wrecked” looks very Mad Max-inspired, given the desert atmosphere and modified cars. This includes the official too. Not only that, but at some point in July, the man who led the X-Men’s Magneto to waste will be unlocked via battle pass missions.

All of this is very timely given the success of the Prime Video adaptation , Furiosa: The Mad Mad Saga hit theaters and X-Men 97 again. The Wrecked season will continue until August 16.

For the past few weeks, a sandstorm looming on the horizon has swept over the island, bringing debris and a new biome to the south called the Wasteland. (I’m glad Mount Olympus, my favorite last season, has survived so far.) You’ll have three new locations to explore in the Redline Rig Oil Refinery, the Nitrodrome car arena, and the Brutal Beachhead. A boss named Megalo Don.

The Redline Rig spawns Nitro Splash and Nitro Barrels that you can find all over the island and use to power up your car and yourself. When you’re Nitro-fied, you can press through the build without needing to use your pickax. If you’re lucky enough to find Nitro Fists, you can also use them as a powerful melee weapon.

Vehicles can be modified with items such as machine gun turrets and studded bumpers. There is also the option to hijack one of the two War Buses patrolling the island. These include cannons and an EMP pulse that can damage enemy shields and disable nearby vehicles.

As for Fallout collaborations, the franchise’s iconic Nuka-Cola is now Fortnite. You can remove some to increase health and regenerate shields over time. Additionally, you will be able to unlock the T-60 Power Armor skin via the battle pass.
