What to expect from Microsoft Build 2024

Typically, Microsoft’s Build is a simple (often dry) showcase of the company’s software and hardware development, with some coding to excite the developer crowd. But this year, the company will make some big AI moves after debuting Bing Chat powered by ChatGPT in 2023. Then there’s the new Surface hardware.

In fact, Microsoft has a showcase for the new Surfaces and AI in Windows 11 on May 20, with Build actually starting a day later. And you know what? Could be a surface event most effective.

Rumors suggest we’ll see some of the first systems with Qualcomm’s Arm-based Snapdragon X Elite chip along with new features in the next big Windows 11 update.

For consumer PCs, the update will likely include new 13- and 15-inch Surface Laptop 6 models with slimmer bezels, larger trackpads, improved port selection, and the X Elite chip. We might even see an Arm-based version of the Surface Pro 10.

While Intel has confirmed that Microsoft is already working on ways to make Copilot native, we may see it reach consumers as well. By native, I mean that an AI assistant can answer simpler questions like basic math or queries about files on your system without an internet connection.
