Developer and publisher Crafton says that the Erangel Classic map will reflect the concepts, graphics, atmosphere and user interface of the original. However, it will combine them with “modern tweaks” to deliver the “enjoyable gaming experience gamers are accustomed to”. In other words, like remasters other classic gamesthe goal is to feel as close to the original as possible without removing all the subtle quality-of-life improvements from the game’s evolution.
If the idea of an updated map sounds familiar, Fortnite brought back the original 2018 island map broke their records for the number of players late last year. (It had its biggest day ever, peaking at 44.7 million players.) It’s easy to see why Crafton would want a piece of the action.
The original map includes foggy and rainy weather to add unexpected weather to specific nodes. The tiered release will come to PC and consoles at different times, extending playtime for those who own the game on multiple platforms (perhaps helping Crafton sell a few extra in-game items). It will be available in Erangel Classic PUBG: Battlegrounds It replaced the modern Erangel map during those periods from May 14 to 28 on PC and from May 23 to June 6 on consoles. Crafton says the May 14 patch notes will provide more details on all the changes to the map, so stay tuned.
