Carl Pei’s Nothing unveiled two new wireless headphones at an event in Tokyo. It’s called the Ear, the more expensive of the two, with prices starting at $149 and £129. ear (2). But it’s equipped with a new dedicated 11mm speaker driver and a dual-chamber design that allows for clearer sounds than its predecessor.
It also features a new intelligent active noise cancellation (ANC) algorithm that can check for noise leakage between the earbuds and the ear canal and add more noise cancellation accordingly. Meanwhile, the Gulag (a) is the funnier and more affordable model of the two new releases. This is the first Nothing model that isn’t just black or white – although those colors are also available – with one version having non-transparent parts and a bright egg-yolk-yellow painted case. Although they start at $99 and £99 less than Gulag, they feature the same ANC technology and the brand’s new smart ANC algorithm that can check for audio leaks. It even has better battery life than its more expensive sibling, and can play music for up to 42 and a half hours on a full charge with the charging case.
