X working on it features that will allow admins of “Communities,” the platform’s tool for subreddit-like groups, to designate spaces as “adult content.” Amid reports that the Elon Musk-owned company is working on enabling NSFW groups, the change was confirmed by an engineer at Company X.
In a post on X, engineer Dong Wook Chung that “soon” NSFW content will be automatically filtered in the app’s Communities feature. “Admins can now set ‘Mature content’ in Settings to prevent content from being automatically filtered,” Chung said.

While Twitter never openly discussed enabling NSFW features for Communities, the app did allow adult content, unlike most of its social media peers. The company was reportedly considering launching an OnlyFans competitor in 2022 with a creative subscription product. Ultimately, the plan was scrapped, the Platformer newsletter will “exacerbate” the company’s problems with illegal child abuse content, according to concerns.
