The lawsuit comes after the European Commission fined Apple 1.8 billion euros ($1.95 billion) for stopping music streaming developers from “informing iOS users about alternative and cheaper music subscription services” outside the App Store. The DOJ suggests that Apple used its control over iOS to block innovative apps and cloud streaming services from the public. (See Google’s cloud gaming services like the now-defunct Stadia and Microsoft xCloud). The lawsuit also alleges that Apple obstructed rival payment platforms, made it difficult for Android messages to appear on iPhones, and limited the integration of rival smartphones with iOS devices.

The DOJ says that Apple claims 70 percent of all smartphones, which is already low. Step outside the US, which is a bit academic here, and Apple has the same market share as Samsung, with many other phone makers competing for a percentage point or two. It’s not like Microsoft’s grip on PCs.

One of the interesting aspects of Reddit’s public offering has been the offering of shares at the IPO price to long-term users who have been doing well over the past few weeks. However, it’s not all good news for Reddit. It recently signed a $60 million annual deal with Google to train AI models on user-generated content. The Federal Trade Commission is investigating the regulation.
