“There is no Founding Agreement or any agreement at all with Musk,” OpenAI said in a filing as a defendant in Elon Musk’s lawsuit. We are talking about, of course Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing it of violating its non-profit status, as well as violating its founding agreement, which promises the organization will never operate for profit and disclose AI to the public. The company said that these are the claims of the billionaire basically “verified – often inconsistent – factual premises.” The founding agreement was called “a fiction concocted to stake unearned claims on the fruits of a venture that Musk first backed, then abandoned, then watched succeed without him.”
If the case pans out, there is evidence that Musk supports OpenAI’s transition to a commercial structure, “Mask will be self-managed,” OpenAI continued. In addition, the billionaire allegedly stopped supporting the project when his ideas were not followed. The statement echoes the company’s blog post earlier this month, in which it published emails to and from Musk from when he was still associated with the organization. According to those exchanges, Musk knew and was a supporter Turning OpenAI into a commercial entity. He even wanted full control of it as CEO and a majority stake. Musk also agreed to a proposal for the organization to join Tesla so that the automaker can secure its financing. In the end, the parties did not reach an agreement and Musk stopped participating.
“Having seen the remarkable technological advances OpenAI has made, Musk now wants that success for himself,” OpenAI said in the filing. “Musk intends to bring this suit for humanity, when the truth is – as clear as Musk’s contradictory pleadings – he is bringing it to serve his own commercial interests.”
Musk introduced his artificial intelligence company called xAI Last year, with the rather lofty goal of understanding “the true nature of the universe.” A few days after the OpenAI blog post, Musk claimed that he knew he never intended to open up his technology, the billionaire said that xAI open source is its Grok chatbot. While it can be a great dig at OpenAI, open-sourcing Grok can also get the company feedback from the developer community that xAI can use to improve its technology.
