After weeks of rumors, Apple announced today the newest additions to its MacBook lineup: the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models, both powered by the M3 chipset. Apple says the M3 MacBook Airs will be up to 60 percent faster than the M1-powered laptop and up to 13 times faster than old-school Airs powered by Intel chips. Speed and efficiency are the key points here, as otherwise the MacBook Air specs haven’t changed much. The new 13- and 15-inch laptops feature octa-core CPUs and support a 10-core GPU, along with up to 24GB of RAM and up to 2TB of internal storage. It should be noted that the base 13-inch MacBook Air M3 has the starting characteristics of its predecessor M2 model: 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Display specs also remain the same across the board: both new models feature a Liquid Retina panel with a resolution of 2560 x 1664 and 500 nits of brightness.
The only notable additions to the M3-powered MacBook Airs are Wi-Fi 6E (the M2 Air just supports standard Wi-Fi 6) and additional support for up to two external displays. The latter should be especially useful for multitaskers and anyone who uses the new Air as a daily driver and wants to use more than one external display in their desktop setup.
Color options have also carried over from the M2 version: with the M3, the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air are available in midnight, space gray, starlight and silver. Apparently Apple is now billing the M2 Air as the “budget” option in the lineup, while the M1 remains available (for now) at other retailers like Amazon, where you can get it for rock bottom. 750 dollars.
