Apple today announced Sports, a new iPhone app that offers real-time stats for a number of major leagues. Once installed, users can set their favorite teams and get tons of information on the lock screen in the live action box when the team is playing. The app, available for free in the US, Canada and the UK as of today, is currently available for basketball, hockey and football football. Other sports, including baseball and American football, will debut in future seasons, the company added.
There are many reasons why you may not be able to watch your favorite team play live. You may have a previous engagement, the game may not be televised, or Todd Boehly has done a lot. damage you can’t bear to look at him in the club anymore. In such situations, push signals from major sports programs have been a lifeline, but this is not always completely reliable.
Now, since then it has been possible to get it working iOS 16, if you wanted to delve into the depths of the Apple TV app. Some third-party platforms, such as MLB’s native app, will place this information on your lock screen or Dynamic Island. But Apple says its own setup offers “a simple and quick way to get up to speed on their favorite teams and leagues.” The setup will also be synced to your Apple TV or any sports picks already saved Apple News programs.
More worryingly, Sports will also offer live betting odds for games as they are in play. It’s worth noting that it will be possible to disable the live odds feature in the settings, but it seems like it would be smarter and less harmful to opt in than opt out.
Apple Sports is now available for download in English. French and Spanish are supported if possible.
